Once upon a time, a man from the State of Qi was always worried about what would happen if the sky and the ground collapsed. He was so worried that he couldn’t eat and sleep.
One day, a friend came to help him:
“The sky has been an air mass since the beginning. We mankind has lived and acted inside it. How could it fall?”
The man asked his friend:
“If the sky is air, what about the sun, moon, and stars? Won’t they fall too?”
His friend replied:
“They are just lights in the sky. They won’t hurt us if they fall.”
The man asked again:
“What if the ground sinks?”
His friend said:
“The ground is made of soil. You walk on it every day. Why worry about it sinking?”
After hearing this, the man was no longer scared and felt happy. His friend smiled too.
This story teaches us not to worry about things that are unlikely to happen. And here is an English idiom may fit this: “Don’t borrow trouble.” – Don’t worry about potential problems that may never occur.
