When I sat outside the coffee shop, a sparrow flew down onto the chair in front of me. It perched with its back to me, its head darting around. I immediately picked up my phone to capture the moment. I hadn’t been here in a few weeks, and the road outside was under repair, the smell of asphalt occasionally wafting into my nose.
The morning sun rose high, casting strong rays that illuminated everything on the ground. The cool shade, however, was a welcome respite from the heat. I wandered around the tree, enjoying the sight of the white crape myrtle flowers above me. They were scattered among the green leaves, their slender yellow stamens standing out against the white petals, creating a beautiful contrast.
As I hid in the shade for an hour, trying to come up with the perfect words for a beautiful haiku, but nothing came to me. Letting out a light sigh, I gave up thinking. Perhaps inspiration would come through music instead, I thought, as I picked up my ocarina to practice, hoping the melodies would unlock the words I sought.
Perched clouds peer down
through the swaying of flowers
bees come, then they leave
