The First Morning of July

It is the first cool early morning of July; the temperature has dropped to a comfortable level. Many thin gray clouds glide eastward, occasionally leaking light spots. After a while, they stack up to form thick fish clouds, darkening the sky. Nearby, the rushing wind flows through the tops of the fir trees, making the branches sway from side to side. On the ground, the back lawn doesn’t look like a smooth, green carpet anymore. After the mower went over it, it now has stripes of brown and green. Some areas have short, brown grass, while other areas still have green grass. I touch the grass barefoot, and the morning dew wets my feet. I am here with gentle music to begin my daily Zen dancing practice before the heat of the day arrives.
