While lightly walking in Lake Crabtree County Park one morning in August, I gathered with my friends. Four of us, dressed in summer clothes, strolled along the vast lake, with many people passing by. They lined up at a pavilion to register for a free two-hour boating session. We came upon a quiet nook where a few seniors were playing with model yachts, their routes in the lake controlled by their owners. We paused with great interest to watch the yachts float back and forth.
At noon, we looked for a peaceful place to picnic, where tall trees provided shade from the outside hustle and the strong sun. We took out our homemade dishes and placed them on a long wooden table, beginning our lunch. I should have brought mosquito repellent, as my skin was bitten by invisible mosquitoes when we arrived.
