Geese

A group of geese search for food in the lush grass on the distant slope, their heads bobbing up and down as they peck at the grass. Meanwhile, I stand at the roadside, quietly observing them from a distance. Each goose is focused intently on finding food, except for one that stands like a sentinel, its long neck extended as it keeps a careful watch over the flock, ensuring the safety of its companions. Under the watchful eyes of the sentinel, the rest of the geese feed peacefully with their confidence.

I stand beneath the osmanthus tree in your humble, old yard, in the seventeenth century, watching you. You lean against the wooden door, eyes fixed on the narrow mud path outside, which still holds the fading footprints of your best friend, Xi Han.
